    LAMP HEIGHT for multiple bulbs: measure from the TOP of the body where the multiple sockets join together - to bottom of base

5) BODY WIDTH - widest portion of the lamp body

Forget the harp size and shade spider drop/recess. Concentrate on selecting the correct lamp shade first. (We address harp and shade drop/recess last). Many customers make their lamp shade search much too complex by looking for a shade with exact measurements plus an exact shade spider drop/recess to fit an existing harp - mission impossible ! The shade size combined with the shade drop/recess and the harp size determines the vertical location of the shade on the lamp. First find the correct shade size (top-bottom-side) then if necessary, we can easily change your harp/shade holder to the correct length that places the new shade bottom edge 1-2" below the electrical socket. Shade bottom should usually be 1-2" below the bottom of the electrical socket (excluding multiple socket lamps) - varied per customer preference.
The Vertical Position of a Lamp Shade is determined by three (3) things:
1) Shade Size
2) Harp (shade holder) size
3) Drop/Recess of the shade spider (top spokes).

WASHER SPIDER = top "spokes" and "washer" found on our lamp shades unless noted otherwise.
SPIDER DROP/RECESS = Vertical distance from the shade top rim to the spider washer.

Lamp Measurements and Component Parts

HARP, SADDLE, FINIAL - Lamp shade rests on a HARP or PIPE and held by a FINIAL. HARP snaps into the SADDLE located directly beneath the electrical socket. Harps are available in many different sizes (lengths). Harps and saddles are also available in two (2) different gauges: Heavy Duty or Light Duty. Heavy Duty Harps and Saddles are nearly 1/4" in thickness - about the width of a standard drinking straw. Light Duty Harps and Saddles are thinner.

Shade Riser - 1" or 2" high - Screws onto a Harp (above) to quickly raise (lower) a lamp shade.
